Lake DeGray Triathlon Training Camp
A terrific opportunity for a weekend full of intense early season triathlon training will take place in Arkansas this March 2010. Located at DeGray Lake near Arkadelphia and Hot Springs, the training camp is about 6 hours drive from Springfield, MO. Athletes are given the opportunity to focus on training without every day interruptions. The camp will adhere to a rigorous training schedule for swimming, cycling, running, and rest.
One of the priorities of the staff is to broaden the athlete's knowledge of triathlon. Swimming, cycling, running, mental preparation, recovery, nutrition, energy systems, and many other topics will be discussed through-out the camp, but the focus will remain on training. It will be an enlightening period for participants to learn that physiological along with psychological needs play an important role in enhancing performance.
Any triathlete that aspires to become better at swimming, cycling, or running, or just for a weekend set aside for some great training with comrades should attend this camp. The camp is organized by Team Triple Threat, a North Texas Triathlon club for endurance athletes. There are only 35 available slots for the camp, so interested triathletes should not delay registration. The air temperature during the daytime reaches the low-to-mid 70's, but nights do cool down to about 50 degrees. Both pool swims and open water swims are planned, but those who do not wish to brave the water that is expected to be in the mid-to-high 50's can opt out of the open water component, and still get a lot out of the camp.
I spoke with Coach Kristin with Team Triple Threat today, and she indicated that the camp is appropriate for triathletes of all levels with the exception of those who are completely new to the sport. You must have completed at least a sprint triathlon to attend this camp. That having been said, they are welcoming several members who are training for Ironman St. George, and half-iron and olympic distance triathletes will be represented, as well. There will be enough coaches that groups can be created based on abilities. No one will be held back, and no one will be forced into a training group that is above their ability.
The camp is USAT sanctioned.
Currently, registration is $215 (does not include meals and lodging) through November 1.
