The 2011 Ozarks Multisport Club Open Water Swim and Picnic takes place at Moonshine Beach on Saturday, July 17, 2010. We have rented the Pavillion at Moonshine Beach, so bring the whole family. This event was a huge success last year.

Burgers, dogs, snacks, and beverages will be served! The event will begin promptly at 12:00 pm. We'll start heating up the coals about 12:30 pm, and have the drinks and snacks out. At the same time we'll have a brief dry land clinic about open water swimming for those of you who are new to this part of triathlon, and then a group swim. If you wish to wear a wetsuit just for the practice, feel free. The water will be warm. We will talk about getting in and out of your wetsuit. We'll have a couple of kayakers keeping an eye on the swimmers, but we stay close to the beach, just on the outside of the buoys that define the swim area. By the time we finish out swim, between 1:00 and 1:30 pm the burgers will be flippin' and the hot dogs a 'rollin. Expect the picnic to go on for another hour and a half, or so, and enjoy the beach area. I would expect the festivities to wrap up around 3-3:30 pm. The picnic and open water swim will dovetail our mini tri camp.

Tri camp continues from the end of the picnic: I reserved 5 campsites at Dewey Beach/Branson State Park Marina and Campgrounds. Each site can hold two tents and up to six people. These are basic campsites, no electricity. There are showers and toilets on site. These campsites are reserved for Friday night and Saturday night (July 16th and 17th) because there is a two night minimum in the summer. Right now I have takers for each of the campsites for Saturday night. But there is still plenty of room. If anyone would like the site for Friday night it is very important that you let me know. This is free, but I need to know so I can make the site in your name.

The camp schedule would be the following: After we wrap up at Moonshine Beach we would head across the Table Rock Dam to Dewey Short Beach and State Park Marina. Then, we will go for a run, about 4:00 pm along Table Rock Lakeshore Trail. The trail is 2.2 miles and as you can tell from the map it will be easy to loop around and create a run course that is about 10K. Runners who wish to wish to go further than 10K can go twice around. All or part of a second loop is also possible. So, we run for anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes, and then go to our hotel room or campsite. About 6:30 pm we meet for a group dinner at a local restaurant. I will work this out and let you know where we will be meeting. Expect a modestly priced restaurant like a Ruby Tuesday's. After dinner, I am going to try to bring an LCD projector and laptop, and project a movie onto the side of our motor home. So, bring your lawnchairs and your favorite beverage. Others may want to hit the town and enjoy what areas like Branson Landing have to offer. The next morning we will reconvene at the Dewey Short parking lot, around 7 am, and go on a bike ride. The route will include a good part of Ironman Branson 70.3, but will be designed to begin and end at the Dewey Short Parking lot. (IM Branson has separate transition zones making it difficult for us to re-create the whole course for our camp.) A few weeks ago I did this ride and it is a minimum of 30 miles, but can be lengthened by looping around the Ozark Mountain High Road a couple of times -- consistent with the planned race course. After the bike ride, the camp is over and we will return to Springfield.
