Want to get into a sold-out Ironman?
Ironman participation has grown incredibly with some selling out onsite the day after the event or literally within minutes of being released on Active.com. It's frustrating to get your hopes high and then have them crushed because you couldn't fill out your information or hit the refresh button fast enough. It's also difficult to commit to such a big event a year in advance.
There are a few options to get into the sold out Ironman, but it will cost a bit more:
• Community Fund Slot - These are on the Ironman website. You write two checks. One is your $550 entry fee and the other is $550 that goes to a local charity that Ironman selects at each race host city. The latter is tax deductible. The fee seems to vary from each race. Community fund slots do go fast. However, as of now there are still 110 spots open for Canada next year. (Let me know if you want to go.....I am thinking about going back again next year).
• http://multisports.com - Listed on this site are packages you can purchase that include race entry, training plan specific for the particular Ironman and, in some locations, a training camp for the specific race.
• http://endurancesportstravel.com - This is the site to use for travel to your exotic Ironman. It lists packages that include your race entry and all your travel needs.
So there is still hope to get into that dream race. I hope this helps!
